Connecting Stripe or Square
Which processor to pick, what connecting actually does, and the one thing Square users need to re-do.
Customers pay by card at checkout, and the money goes to your own connected account — Bakeable never holds it. Settings → Payments is where you connect.
Which one to pick
| Stripe | Square | |
|---|---|---|
| Available on | Every plan | Micro and above |
| Good reason to pick it | You have no existing card setup, or you want subscriptions with the smoothest retry handling. | You already run a Square terminal at a market and want one place for the money. |
| Currencies | CAD and USD | CAD and USD |
You connect one or the other, not both. Everything downstream — checkout, refunds, subscriptions — works the same way whichever you choose.
Square: you may need to re-authorise
Square subscriptions need permission to store a card on file. If you connected Square before that feature existed, reconnect from Settings → Payments — otherwise subscription sign-ups will fail even though one-off checkout works fine.
Square access renews itself in the background every 30 days. You do not need to do anything for that, and you will not be logged out.
